Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
late Nanhuan (middle Cryogenian), Nh (56, 57)

Province:
Guangxi, Guizhou

Type Locality and Naming

Northernmost Guangxi. The Fulu Fm was named by Wang Yuelun in 1936, and the typical section is situated in Fulu and Liuhe of Sanjiang County, Guangxi Zhuangzhu Zizhiqu (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region).

Lithology and Thickness

The Fulu Fm is chiefly composed of light gray, grayish purple, grayish green greywacke arkosic sandstone intercalated with minor arkosic sandstone, arkosic greywacke, siltstone, sandy slate, black slate and locally dolomite. The sandstone developed horizontal stratifications, oblique beddings, wavy beddings and ripple marks. The basal part is ferruginous sandstone and shale intercalated with banded hematite, and a basal conglomerate and sandstone. The total thickness varies from 80 to 875 m; and eastward, the thickness decreases and mudstone increases.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests disconformably on the underlying Chang'an Fm with an obvious erosion gap, but some literatures considered that it is a conformable contact.

Upper contact

Indicated on schematic stratigraphic column of this region as being overlain by the Nantou Fm tillite.

Regional extent

Guizhou, Guangxi provinces.
